Following its success as one of Vietnam’s top five box office hits of 2024, The Real Sister (Chị Dâu) is set to premiere in theaters across the United States and Canada on February 21, 2025. Distributed by Eastern Edge Films Inc. (EEF), the acclaimed family drama brings Vietnamese storytelling to a wider audience, exploring themes of sisterhood, tradition, and resilience.
Directed by Khuong Ngoc, The Real Sister follows the heartfelt and often humorous journey of a sister-in-law, played by Viet Huong, navigating complex family dynamics during a traditional Đám Giỗ (ancestral banquet). She is joined by an ensemble cast of celebrated Vietnamese actresses, including Hong Dao, Ngoc Trinh, Dinh Y Nhung, and Le Khanh, who together create a compelling portrait of love and conflict within a family.
The film’s striking cinematography, helmed by Nguyen Ngoc Cuong, enhances the emotional weight of the story, while editor Nguyen Vinh Thang ensures a seamless narrative flow. Produced by LiveOn, with international sales handled by Skyline Media, the film is the latest project from producer Pham Tran Bao Quyen, known for her previous success with Bay Ngọt Ngào, another Vietnamese film that made its mark in the U.S. market.
With screenings set for over 100 theaters across North America, The Real Sister offers a rare opportunity for audiences to experience the richness of Vietnamese culture on the big screen. Eastern Edge Films, led by CEO Jawahar Sharma, is spearheading the film’s distribution, with a strategic marketing push from Dr. Jacqueline Thu Thao and Bryan Khoi Nguyen to ensure the film resonates with diverse communities.
“We believe that The Real Sister will not only entertain but also foster a deeper appreciation of Vietnamese storytelling,” said Sharma. “This is a film about love, tradition, and the enduring strength of family—universal themes that will connect with audiences everywhere.”
