National Geographic has released a comprehensive interactive video archive to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The digital platform offers an immersive experience featuring never-before-seen footage and eyewitness testimony.
The archive contains more than 100 hours of video content, including over 20 hours of footage that has not been previously released to the public. The material is drawn from the brand’s catalog of documentaries, specifically the series 9/11: One Day in America and 9/11 Reunited, which were produced by 72 Films.
Users can navigate the archive through a unified timeline of the attacks, with access to approximately 500 video clips. The interface allows viewers to sort and filter content by time, topic, and location. The experience combines personal accounts from more than 65 individual contributors with data visualization to provide a detailed view of the events.
Accompanying the video archive is a digital feature authored by historian Garrett M. Graff. This feature provides a minute-by-minute narrative examining the critical 17-minute window between the first and second plane impacts at the World Trade Center.
The project was developed in collaboration with the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and 72 Films. While the related docuseries are available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu, the interactive archive can be accessed via the National Geographic website.
