The New York State Unified Court System and the Historical Society of the New York Courts recently announced the 2025 Law Day Art Contest, inviting high school students across the state to submit original artwork inspired by the theme “The Constitution’s Promise: Out of Many, One.”
The annual contest, which celebrates Law Day in May, aims to encourage civic engagement and artistic expression among young people while highlighting the significance of unity and the shared responsibility to uphold constitutional principles. Students are asked to create art that reflects the theme and explores how constitutional rights and protections influence their daily lives.
This year’s contest will feature two rounds of judging. In the first round, entries will be evaluated within each of New York’s judicial districts. District winners will advance to a statewide competition, where first, second, and third-place winners will be selected. Cash prizes, provided by the Historical Society of the New York Courts, will be awarded to the statewide winners, and their artwork will be showcased on the court system’s website.
Submissions must be received by February 25, 2025. Winners will be announced on May 1, 2025, as part of the statewide Law Day celebrations.
The Law Day Art Contest reflects the courts’ commitment to promoting civic education and community outreach, particularly among young people. The initiative underscores the importance of engaging students in conversations about democracy, justice, and the role of the Constitution in fostering unity and equality.
Additional information about contest rules and submission guidelines is available on the New York State Unified Court System’s website.
