New York City’s Public Libraries Reveal Top Checkouts of 2024

For the first time, New York City’s three public library systems – The New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, and Queens Public Library – have announced a combined list of the top checkouts for 2024, drawing on data from all five boroughs. The citywide list highlights the most popular titles checked out by library users across e-books, audiobooks, and physical books.

The top title across the three systems was Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, followed by Happy Place by Emily Henry and Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. Several of these books also featured prominently in The New York Public Library and WNYC’s virtual book club, Get Lit, including The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store by James McBride, Demon of Unrest by Rita Woods, Anita de Monte Laughs Last by Lynn P. LaFleur, and Long Island Compromise by Patricia Reilly Giff.

In total, the top checkouts span all formats and cover a wide range of genres. The full citywide list, along with the top titles for adults, young adults, and children at each library system, can be found on the respective library websites.

8. Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
9. Yellowface by R.F. Kuang
10. The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese
