
PepsiCo, Inc. released its 2025 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) summary this past week, detailing the company’s progress toward its pep+ sustainability targets set for 2030. The report outlines continued efforts in climate action, agriculture, and nutritional portfolio transformation.
In its climate initiatives, PepsiCo reported significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions compared to its 2022 baseline. The company achieved a 24% reduction for its Scope 1 and 2 goals, a 12% reduction for Scope 3 Energy and Industry goals, and an 18% reduction for Scope 3 Forest, Land, and Agriculture goals. Additionally, PepsiCo sourced approximately 96% of the global electricity required for its company-owned operations from renewable sources, totaling about 4,300 GWh.
To further reduce emissions, PepsiCo partnered with Yara International to implement low-carbon fertilizers and precision farming technologies across 1,000 farms in the United Kingdom and the European Union, primarily focusing on potato production. In Mexico, the company integrated 1,070 Ford E-Transit electric vans into its delivery fleet to improve the sustainability of its logistics operations.
The company also reported progress in its nutritional goals for 2025. PepsiCo exceeded its target for beverage volume, with 68% of its beverage portfolio containing no more than 100 calories from added sugars per 12-ounce serving, surpassing the 67% goal. In its convenient foods segment, 79% of the volume met sodium targets of no more than 1.3 milligrams per calorie, exceeding the 75% goal. Furthermore, 79% of convenient foods met saturated fat targets by not exceeding 1.1 grams per 100 calories, also surpassing the 75% target. PepsiCo delivered 79 billion portions of diverse ingredients, such as fruits, vegetables, and plant-based proteins, as it works toward a 2030 goal of 145 billion portions annually.
Regarding agricultural and water stewardship, PepsiCo has expanded regenerative, restorative, and protective practices to 4.7 million acres. Since 2021, the company has supported approximately 224,000 people across its agricultural supply chains through programs designed to improve economic prosperity and farm worker security. In terms of water management, the company achieved 100% water replenishment at company-owned facilities located in high water-risk watersheds. Through more than 60 active replenishment projects, PepsiCo helped return approximately 35 billion liters of water to local watersheds.
In the area of packaging, PepsiCo reported the use of 2.0 million metric tons of plastic in key markets during 2025. The company achieved a 6% reduction in the absolute tonnage of virgin plastics between 2024 and 2025 and reported that 18% of its plastic packaging was recycled.
