The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has announced that empty tractor-trailers and tandem trucks will be prohibited from using seven New York City bridges due to forecasted high winds. The restrictions will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, and are expected to remain in place through 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 2.

The affected bridges include the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge, Cross Bay Bridge, Henry Hudson Bridge, Marine Parkway Bridge, Robert F. Kennedy Bridge, Throgs Neck Bridge, and Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

The prohibition is aimed at ensuring safety during the high wind event, which poses risks to larger vehicles that are more susceptible to being affected by gusts. Times for the restrictions are subject to change depending on weather conditions.

Motorists are encouraged to check mta.info for real-time updates on service changes and can sign up for email or SMS alerts from MTA Bridges and Tunnels for the latest information.
