The City of Syracuse Department of Public Works (DPW) will collect natural Christmas trees curbside throughout January using a quadrant-based pickup schedule. Residents are advised to place trees on the curb in the Northeast on Jan. 4-5, Southeast on Jan. 11-12, Southwest on Jan. 18-19, and Northwest on Jan. 25-26.
To ensure proper collection, residents must remove all decorations, lights, tinsel, stands, plastic, and metal from the trees. Natural wreaths, garlands, or swags, which typically contain metal, will not be accepted. Artificial trees should be bagged and disposed of inside city-provided trash carts following the regular pickup schedule or by arranging a bulk pickup through Cityline at 315-448-CITY (2489).
For residents who prefer to drop off their trees, the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) offers free disposal at two locations: the Jamesville Compost Site at 4370 Route 91, Jamesville, and the Amboy Compost Site at 6296 Airport Road, Camillus. Drop-offs are accepted Monday through Friday, Jan. 6 to Jan. 17, 2025, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., excluding weekends. Additional information is available at ocrra.org.
The 2025 City Services Guide, which includes the setout schedule and further details, can be accessed online at syr.gov/PublicWorks. Residents are encouraged to review the guide for comprehensive information on waste disposal and other public works services.
