$51 million in grants will be made available to assist 1,060 households across New York, aimed at making homeownership more accessible and affordable. The funding will help low- and moderate-income families with home repairs, accessibility upgrades, safety improvements, and down payment assistance for first-time buyers.
The grants, administered through New York State Homes and Community Renewal, were awarded to nonprofit organizations and localities to preserve affordable housing, support veterans and seniors, and increase homeownership opportunities. This initiative is part of Gov. Hochul’s $25 billion housing plan, which seeks to create or preserve 100,000 affordable homes statewide.
Hochul highlighted her administration’s commitment to addressing New York’s housing crisis, noting that more than 50,000 affordable homes have been created or preserved to date. The comprehensive plan includes expanding housing supply through new tax incentives, investing $500 million in housing development on state-owned properties, and strengthening renter protections.
Programs funded by the grants include the NYS HOME Program, Community Development Block Grant, Access to Home, and RESTORE, among others. These programs address a range of needs, from replacing outdated manufactured homes to making accessibility modifications for individuals with disabilities. Hochul emphasized that the investment will allow families to live safely and affordably while strengthening local communities.
