New York State law enforcement agencies issued 49,948 traffic tickets during a statewide enforcement campaign coinciding with Super Bowl celebrations, Governor Kathy Hochul announced. The initiative, which ran from February 3 through February 9, 2025, aimed to curb impaired and reckless driving.
The crackdown resulted in 1,021 tickets for impaired driving and 8,536 for speeding. Additionally, officers issued 1,914 tickets for distracted driving, 1,083 for seatbelt violations, and 227 for move-over law infractions. The remaining 37,167 tickets addressed other vehicle and traffic law violations.
This year’s enforcement saw a significant increase compared to the 2024 Super Bowl weekend campaign, which recorded 262 impaired driving arrests and 8,388 total tickets issued.
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee sponsored the initiative, coordinating efforts among state and local law enforcement to enhance patrols, establish sobriety checkpoints, and target underage drinking. Similar campaigns are conducted during other major events and holidays to promote road safety.
