Westchester County has unveiled 25 new electric vehicle charging stations at the County Center’s South Parking Lot, offering free charging for up to 50 EVs at a time. The expansion is part of the County’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Funded by a $115,000 Clean Energy Communities Grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the new charging stations support the County’s Climate Action Plan by increasing access to clean energy infrastructure. The Hudson Valley Regional Council assisted in the implementation of the initiative, which aims to make EV use more practical for residents and visitors.

The charging stations are available at no cost to event attendees, mass transit commuters, and visitors to the Bronx River Parkway Reservation trail. The County Center, a major hub for events and activities, is expected to see increased EV traffic as a result of the initiative.

Local officials praised the project’s environmental and economic benefits. Board of Legislators Chairman Vedat Gashi highlighted its role in maintaining clean air and boosting the local economy, while County Legislator David J. Tubiolo underscored its impact on promoting a more sustainable future.

As the County continues to prioritize sustainability, officials plan to explore further expansions of EV infrastructure to encourage clean energy adoption. For now, residents and visitors can take advantage of the new free charging stations, supporting Westchester’s long-term vision for a greener future.
