New York City is positioning itself as a global leader in Applied Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the release of New York City’s Artificial Intelligence Advantage: Driving Economic Growth and Technological Transformation. This comprehensive roadmap outlines 18 commitments aimed at leveraging AI to fuel economic growth and workforce development. A cornerstone of this initiative is a $3 million investment from the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to establish the “NYC AI Nexus,” a program designed to connect startups and local businesses in adopting AI-driven solutions across industries. Additionally, NYCEDC announced a partnership with OpenAI, which recently opened its first East Coast office in Manhattan, to support AI-related programs and serve on the city’s AI Advisory Council.

The announcement coincides with New York City reaching a historic milestone—breaking the all-time high jobs record end the end of last month for the eighth time since the start of the Adams administration. Unemployment rates have declined across all demographic groups, reinforcing the city’s position as a leading hub for economic opportunity, with labor shortages for some skilled jobs. As AI and emerging technologies drive job creation, New York City continues to strengthen its workforce pipeline through strategic investments, ensuring accessibility to high-quality jobs for residents across all five boroughs.

With its unmatched tech ecosystem, the nation’s largest academic network, and robust access to capital, New York City is solidifying its role as the global epicenter of AI innovation. The city’s focus on AI development extends beyond technology companies, integrating AI applications into key industries such as life sciences, clean energy, and finance. By encouraging collaboration between businesses, research institutions, and government agencies, the administration aims to ensure that AI’s benefits extend equitably across communities, reinforcing New York City’s position as the premier destination for AI-driven economic growth.
