Governor Kathy Hochul announced that 129,686 tickets were issued statewide during the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, which ran from December 11, 2024, to January 1, 2025. The initiative, aimed at curbing impaired and reckless driving during the holiday season, included state, county, and local law enforcement agencies.
“Driving infractions unnecessarily endanger lives and are entirely preventable,” Governor Hochul said. “This initiative highlights our commitment to holding reckless and impaired drivers accountable while ensuring safer roads for all New Yorkers.”
Ticket Breakdown:
– Impaired Driving: 4,264 tickets
– Speeding: 23,339 tickets
– Distracted Driving: 4,205 tickets
– Move Over Violations: 981 tickets

The Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) funded the campaign, providing resources to law enforcement for high-visibility enforcement during a period with heightened risk of impaired driving. State Police reported 750 arrests for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and issued 45,683 tickets for other offenses.
“Enforcement campaigns like these save lives,” said Mark J.F. Schroeder, Chair of the GTSC. “Drivers must remember to slow down, buckle up, move over for stopped vehicles, and never drive impaired.”
New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James praised the collaborative effort, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to removing dangerous drivers from the roads.
