NYC Health + Hospitals highlighted a year of impactful achievements in 2024, solidifying its role as a leader in the city’s health care landscape. From providing housing to over 1,000 patients to screening more than 50,000 New Yorkers for cancer, and launching a new cardio-obstetrics program, the public health care system addressed some of the city’s most pressing health care needs. Key accomplishments included expanding the nationally recognized Lifestyle Medicine Program to all five boroughs and unveiling a comprehensive three-year Behavioral Health Blueprint to enhance mental health services.

Throughout the year, NYC Health + Hospitals’ dedication to high-quality and compassionate care earned recognition from respected organizations, including Healthgrades, Newsweek, U.S. News & World Report, and the CDC. Mayor Eric Adams praised the system’s efforts, linking them to his administration’s broader goals of making New York City safer and more affordable. He highlighted the importance of public servants in achieving a healthier and more equitable city.

The health care system’s President and CEO, Mitchell Katz, MD, emphasized the commitment to serving all New Yorkers, regardless of their circumstances. He noted the organization’s efforts to address patients’ needs beyond medical care, such as housing and legal services. Katz thanked the dedicated team for delivering equitable and compassionate care.

One standout success was the Lifestyle Medicine Program, which supports patients with chronic conditions through lifestyle changes. Patient Samuel Rios saw remarkable improvements during his six months in the program, reducing his A1C levels from 11.3% to 5.7% and discontinuing insulin use. Such outcomes demonstrate the program’s transformative impact on patients’ lives.

NYC Health + Hospitals’ accomplishments in 2024 reflect a steadfast commitment to innovation, equity, and comprehensive care, ensuring that the health care system continues to meet the diverse needs of all New Yorkers.
