Daylight Studio, a prominent creative hub in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards, broke new ground in the fashion world with its October 26 event, “It’s Not Just Runway, But When Fashion Moves.” The immersive showcase blended fashion, dance, and music while highlighting sustainability, creating a fresh model for industry presentations.
Under the direction of CEO Alfina Astor, the event departed from the traditional runway format by incorporating dynamic performances and a narrative that emphasized environmental responsibility. Designers showcased garments crafted from deadstock fabrics and ethically sourced materials, presenting a vision of fashion as both innovative and sustainable.
The lineup featured designers Nan Seo, Joy Qiu, Andres Biel, Leo Hsiung, and Merhwait Tesfai, alongside Jose Martinez and Michael Vias, who collaborate with AHRC, a nonprofit supporting individuals with disabilities. Their collections showcased creativity infused with a commitment to eco-friendly practices, resonating with a VIP audience of industry professionals and influencers.
Performances from dancers such as Naomi Romero Pedroso and Aya Krim, choreographed by Valeria Alaviie, added an expressive layer to the evening. Environmentalist and Yale student Rakel Tanibajeva delivered a keynote speech addressing the role of sustainability in fashion, further emphasizing the event’s mission.
