The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will host an Open House at the Bronx Library Center on December 16 from 3 pm to 6 pm, providing Bronx residents an opportunity to learn about the 2025–2029 Capital Plan. This event marks the fourth in a series of public engagements aimed at sharing details of the MTA’s $68.4 billion investment strategy for improving and expanding New York’s transit infrastructure over the next five years.
A Vision for the Bronx and BeyondThe Bronx-focused portion of the Capital Plan includes significant projects such as accessibility improvements, the installation of new escalators and elevators, and essential repairs throughout the borough. Key upgrades include improvements to the Dyre and Pelham subway lines, modernization of the 240th Street Yard, and the deployment of additional electric buses. Metro-North Railroad’s plans also feature ADA accessibility upgrades at stations like Botanical Garden and Woodlawn and the construction of new stations as part of the Penn Access project.
What to Expect at the Open HouseAttendees will have access to informational exhibits, including posters, videos, and pamphlets outlining the Capital Plan’s highlights. MTA representatives will be on hand to answer questions and discuss various initiatives, including business opportunities for Minority-, Women-, Disadvantaged-, and Service-Disabled Veteran-owned firms. Information on fare discount programs and career opportunities at the MTA will also be available.
Building on Past EngagementsThis Bronx event follows similar Open Houses held in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. Previous events were co-hosted by elected officials and community leaders, reflecting a collaborative approach to engaging New Yorkers about the transformative Capital Plan. These sessions have provided a platform for public input and highlighted the MTA’s commitment to transparency and community involvement.
A Comprehensive Investment StrategyThe 2025–2029 Capital Plan is grounded in the MTA’s Twenty-Year Needs Assessment and represents a forward-thinking approach to ensuring safe, reliable, and sustainable transit. It includes investments in railcars, signals, power systems, and stations, alongside initiatives addressing climate change resilience and sustainability. By prioritizing accessibility and modernizing infrastructure, the plan aims to enhance the customer experience and maintain the system’s state of good repair.
Bronx residents and transit users are encouraged to attend the Open House to gain insight into how these investments will shape the future of public transit in their borough and across the region.
